Balmoral is a beautiful suburb in Brisbane’s east with a population of approximately 3,700 and situated just back from the river.
Balmoral is about 4 km from Brisbane’s CBD. Over 38% of households in this area are comprised of couples with children, 17% are single parent families and 12% are lone person households. Units account for only 19% of dwellings in this area, while stand alone houses account for over 70%. This suburb has a lively café precinct and offers quality housing close to the city.
Many homes have city views and there are stately old Queenslanders sitting comfortably along contemporary designs.
In Pashen Street, Balmoral stands the tiny heritage listed former fire station built in the 1920s and used as a fire station until recent years.
With Oxford Street shopping precinct at Bulimba right next door, Balmoral is ideally situated.
Collings Street is in Balmoral which is considered one of the more expensive areas to live in Brisbane. Houses in Collings Street have city views as they are situated on Balmoral Hill. The street has a primary school, which is the St Peters and Pauls Primary School.
There are in fact a number of schools, kindergartens, playgroups and childcare in the Balmoral area.
Balmoral State High School is the only secondary school situated in Balmoral, and currently services over 550 students and is part of the Gateway Learning Community.
(GLC) The GLC consists of seven local schools; six primary and Balmoral State High School. The GLC is committed to improving education and learning throughout the local community. The high school has many academic sporting and cultural programmes. Among these are the year book/magazine; The Balmoral State High School Boeing Enterprise Team and Aerospace Studies.
Many of the well known features of the local area have the Balmoral name but are actually situated in surrounding suburbs.
There is the historic Balmoral Cemetery in Morningside and the Balmoral Hotel and Balmoral Cineplex in Bulimba. Balmoral movie goers also have the Hawthorne 3 in Hawthorne Road closeby.
There are several lovely big parks around Balmoral as well as Colmslie Beach Reserve, a popular recreation area, and there are plenty of great dining options in and around Balmoral also, including takeaway, pub or restaurant.
